Title: Cooling of peripheral parts of the body and its effect on performance Objectives: The objective of this bachelor thesis is to gather knowledge from scientific articles and publications. Subsequently, to elaborate the individual sources into a comprehensive literature review that would describe the functioning of cooling using peripheral body parts and provide clear research results. Methods: In the purpose of collecting data for this bachelor thesis, I used available Czech and foreign literature, scientific articles and studies mainly from foreign sources. Keywords: Arteriovenous anastomosis, palm cooling, literature review, heat exhaustion.
Communication in the Context of the Family System in Palliative Care from a Social Worker's Perspective - a Review of English Language Studies
ANDERSSONOVÁ, Tereza
Since the Czech literature does not describe the changes or the course of communication within the family in the situation of dying of one of their members, I realized this literature review in which I formulated the following objectives: 1) to identify the topics of communication in the English-language foreign literature, 2) to describe the content of the identified topics and 3) to draw possible implications for Czech palliative care and further research on this topic. To achieve the objectives, I used the methodology of a good enough literature review. Based on criteria indicating the focus of the thesis on communication in the family in the situation of dying of one of their members, I searched the EBSCO database for 492 articles. Of these, 37 articles were selected for review after the application of the inclusion criteria. The findings can be summarized by stating that despite the relatively small number of research studies, they describe both the areas and characteristics of communication, the factors and roles that influence communication, and the effects of such communication (reduced anxiety, depression, and less complicated grieving in the aftermath of a member's death). It is in this identification of themes and their content that the main contribution of the thesis lies. In particular, I consider the findings related to the chronemic pressure that emerges as the death became significant, with the influence of not only non-specific factors (the rules of communication in the family before the announcement of the fatal diagnosis), but also specific ones (such as cultural influences of the relationship to death, or pseudo-motherhood - the tendency to take over activity and control for the dying person, or fear/uncertainty about discussion related to spirituality). For palliative social work in the Czech Republic, the text may be particularly useful concerning the identified areas of communication as well as factors that may influence communication.
Possibilities of using the squat in training and physical development
Rubek, Tomáš ; Gryc, Tomáš (advisor) ; Blažek, Dušan (referee)
Title: Possibilities of using the squat in training and physical development Objectives: The aim of the thesis was to comprehensively describe the squat as an exercise with a wide range of uses not only in the training of professional athletes, but also recreational exercisers, or the general public. The work was supposed to summarize the number of possible benefits of the squat and its variants in the areas of improving physical performance and physical and mental health. Methods: The thesis uses research methods, that is, the collection and study of selected relevant literature, as a prerequisite for creating an overwiev of the current state of knowledge in the field of the thesis topic. Results: We have described the areas of possible use of the squat. We have briefly summarized the information contained in the studies found and cited in the thesis. Keywords: literature review, exercise, performance, conditioning, rehabilitation
The view of specialised literature on barefoot running and running in traditional shoes (comparative literature review)
Holečková, Klára ; Kaplan, Aleš (advisor) ; Vindušková, Jitka (referee)
Title: The view of specialised literature on barefoot running and running in traditional shoes (comparative literature review) Objectives: The main objective of the presented thesis was to find, read and categorise available Czech and especially foreign literature about the barefoot running topic. Other objective was to create a systematic comparative review of reclaimed information, in which the opinions of authors are compared. Due to formulated objectives, the following task of the thesis was defined. To offer readers a systematic review and describe the presented topic. Methods: The presented bachelor thesis is a comparative literature review, especially foreign- language literature. The keywords were first stated in the English language. After that, they were used for searching for information in science databases. Similarly, the keywords were stated and used for searching information in the Czech language. Due to the systematisation of the terms, it was necessary to gain enough information about the presented topic, which were categorised in the pre-determined chapters. Results: The presented literature review was created from 29 foreign science studies and 11 book publications (5 of them were Czech authors). Some of the authors' opinions on the studied issue were in agreement. For example,...
Estimating the Extent of Inefficiencies in the Czech Health Care System
Pachovský, Tomáš ; Janský, Petr (advisor) ; Paulus, Michal (referee)
In this thesis, we tried to find possible methods of estimation the extent of inefficiencies in healthcare and apply them on Czech data. We reviewed recent literature on this subject and from the literature we selected 3 methods that were used in this thesis. We estimated that costs of error and fraud concerning payments and provision of care in 2010 is roughly between 9,5 to 25,8 billion CZK, extra treatment for people abusing prescription opioids cost approximately 247,8 million CZK in 2011 and that costs of unnecessary use of C-Section in 2011 amounted to 184,4 million CZK. We also broke down the 2010 Czech healthcare expenditures and compared indicators across countries to uncover other possible problems.
Treatment for Brain Arteriovenous Malformations
Bradáč, Ondřej ; Beneš, Vladimír (advisor) ; Haninec, Pavel (referee) ; Vaverka, Miroslav (referee)
Introduction: The surgical and endovascular results of the treatment of pial AVM provided at our Neurosurgical centre are presented. These results are supported by neuropsychological outcomes of subgroup of treated patients. Going by these results and by an overview of literary data on the efficacy and complications of each therapeutic modality, the optimal algorithm of indications is presented Cohort of patients: The main series comprises 222 patients aged 9 to 87 years treated in the years 1998 - 2013. The surgical group consists of 85 patients, 55 patients received solely endovascular treatment. Thirty-four patients were consulted and referred directly to the Radiosurgical unit. The remaining 48 were recommended to abide by the strategy of "watch and wait". A subgroup of 66 patients, who underwent treatment of AVM was neuro-psychologically tested at least two years after treatment using a battery of tests constructed specifically for this study. A control group consisted of 10 subjects without any neurological disease. Results: In the surgical group, serious complications were 3.5% at a 96.5% therapeutic efficacy. As for AVM treated with purely endovascular methods, serious procedural complications were seen in 5.5% of patients, with efficacy totalling 36.4%. One observed patient suffered...
